Berik Akhmetov

President, Caspian University of Technology and Engineering named after Sh. Yessenov, Kazakhstan

Berik Bakhytzhanovich Akhmetov is one of the first young rectors in Kazakhstan. He is a charismatic speaker who can agitate the audience, motivate, immerse into content and inspire for actions.

He is highly sophisticated in higher education, as he worked as a teacher, senior teacher, associate professor, head of the Academic and Methodological Office at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, vice-president for teaching and guiding at the Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, where he integrated a model for developing educational programs based on expected deliverables and initiated the setting up of a department for knowledge assessment and measurement.

Starting from 2017 until now, he has been the president at the Yessenov University. He did a lot to rebrand the university, strengthened its image and raised its profile, implemented the university’s “third mission” by opening the Service Learning center, which allowed making ideas and actions that change public life and minds of people a reality.

By setting up the Саѕріаn Еntrepreneurship Сenter at the university, he works on increasing an entrepreneurial potential of the Caspian region youth, would-be businessmen and teaching staff towards business education. He cares a lot about transforming the university’s organizational structure and switching to a new management model, including stage-by-stage transformation of faculties and schools, which enhances their distinctive features and competitive advantages.

For students, teachers and employees to be happy, a methodology of annual sociological research was developed under the direction of Berik Akhmetov in order to determine the state of the key indicators of the university’s image, such as the “happiness index”, “brand index”, and to identify the appropriate set of tools to robustly promote the Yessenov University brand.

Berik Akhmetov’s areas of expertise are related to digital technologies and cybersecurity of the university’s academic activity.

He has authored over 60 academic, learning and teaching papers, including four monographs and two textbooks.

He is a member of the International Informatization Academy and holder of scholarship for talented young scientists.

He had study placements at the University of Alicante (Spain), Pierre Mendès-France University (France), Regent's University London (UK), Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan) and Berkeley University of California (USA).

He speaks Kazakh (native), Russian (fluent) and English (fluent).

Married, has three daughters and a son.
