How the brain manages cognitive load

Ever felt that you have to think extra hard to solve a complex math problem but it is fairly easy to read numbers on a street sign? Cognitive load plays an important role in the way we solve problems. The cognitive energy one has to solve problems changes with age and varies among individuals. Marie Arsalidou, Founder of NeuroPsyLab, Adjunct Professor at York University, will talk about how we assess cognitive potential across development and brain networks that drive performance. Expect to learn about parts of the brain related to solving math problems and the key role played by brain areas associated with emotions.
