How to Teach What Market Needs: Fusion of Educational Projects Based on Commercial Solution

IT trainings have already answered the question “how to teach?”: a competency-based and project-based approach. With the question "what to teach?" things are much worse. Hundreds of thousands of IT-course graduates have not solved the problem of the shortage of specialists with practical experience. Employers do not need those who lack necessary skills. Competence-based and project-based approaches are focused around the project that the student executes in the learning process. The project determines the content of the course and what knowledge and set of skills the student will gain, what tasks he will be able to solve. If these tasks are of interest for the market, then the graduate will gain a competitive advantage. This means that the project can become the very answer to the question “what to teach?”. Yet educational projects are left without any attention, as frequently they are not based on in-depth research of market needs. Join the session and learn how we conduct market needs research, how we collect typical tasks, analyze them, and synthesize training projects based on this. We will demonstrate how they may alter the content of the course and, most interestingly, what is the role of the industrial partner in this. Participants will receive a clear step-by-step action plan for compiling a training project, formulating criteria that should guide the selection of topics for the course, and learn how to interact with partner companies in order to receive valuable feedback.
